Assistant Viticulturist Vacancy

Zandvliet Wine Estate, nestled in the Robertson valley seeks a motivated and competent assistant viticulturist.

Tertiary qualification in viticulture is required.

Need to be proficient in English and Afrikaans.

This is a key position and the assistant is responsible and will report to the winemaker/general manager regarding the day to day management of the vineyards.

20 ha of vines are planned to be planted in 2018.

This position will supervise the vineyard crew.

The assistant will be responsible for maintaining a high standard in vineyard practices, receive and assign work to others, providing feedback and organizing the vineyard team.
This position will work with the head of winemaking in creating and implementing the vineyards
Cultivation, thinning, pruning, suckering, canopy management, planting and replanting, irrigating, harvesting and general tidiness of area where vineyards are planted, pest (snails, ants), fungicide and herbicide management. The Zandvliet vineyards had a history of leave roll virus infected vines. An active management plan must be put in place to manage this challenge. Irrigation, monitoring and making recommendations, considering fruit quality and growing strength of vines, trellis-, irrigation-, vineyard installation, frost protection. All the machine/equipment repairs & maintenance must be reported to the maintenance
